Stripes are back, in sexy, relaxed, super-soft shades. It's a look that works especially well if you love neutrals but want to spice them up with bold yet understated patterns.
The colours you choose for your stripes are key: mocha, cream and duck egg are a dream ream - a match made in heaven. But you might want to try other shades that are 'in' at the moment - think blush, peach and cream. These muted stripes will add a sophisticated tone on tone look to your walls.
You can of course go for wallpaper, but if you choose to paint the walls yourself, the process involves drawing or taping vertical or horizontal lines on the wall and then filling in the blanks with alternating colours. Vertical stripes will make your ceiling appear higher and add shape to a boxy space. Horizontal stripes make a room appear larger than it is and they appear to draw the ceiling down.
But why stop at the walls? Soft furnishings can create the effect you want too. Striped rugs and cushions are never boring. Feng Shui teachers say that stripes in the home bring happiness and that they symbolise fresh ideas and creativity. What's more, black and white stripe bedroom décor is said to improve relationships. In that case, Sliderobes could have just the answer.
