At the start of every year, Pantone release their chosen colour which they predict will be making waves across the industry over the next 12 months.
Last year it was Emerald green, and this year is the gorgeous ‘Radiant Orchid’, with subtle purple and pink undertones.
This colour has been described as intriguing, imaginative and creative, so it’s no surprise that it’s been readily embraced by industry experts as one of the most exciting trends to look forward to this year.
So where will you be seeing the Pantone colour of 2014? It’ll be making waves and providing inspiration in interiors and fashion all over the world, so if you’re looking for ideas on how to incorporate this colour into your interior design and clothing then read on.
Radiant Orchid for interiors might seem a bit overwhelming, but if used as an accent colour is can be very striking. Pairing it with pale greys in your decorating can complement most interior spaces, or if you’d rather be bold with your colour, try matching it with deep greens instead. You can introduce it into your existing décor with accent cushions, candles, paint or other accessories, so you don’t have to totally commit to it if you’re not sure yet if it’s really the colour for you! In fact, with such a vibrant colour, less is probably more.
For budding fashionistas, purple is great news for your wardrobe, as it complements most hair colours and skin tones. Accessorize with jewellery or even nail polish if you don’t feel confident yet wearing it in your clothes – and let’s face it, with such a vibrant hue Radiant Orchid is not for wall flowers! It’s not just for the girls though, so expect to see this colour trickle through into men’s textiles over the course of the year as well. q
