Meet Rob Parker, our resident blogger here at Sliderobes. He talks us through his interiors wish list to his dream wardrobe.
What’s your most prized possession?
I’ve just become a homeowner for the first time, so I’ll have to go for that as my most prized possession. It’s obviously my most valuable possession and, given that it’s all very new, is very highly prized at the moment.
In terms of something I can hold in my hands, I’d have to say my iPhone. That might sound a bit sad, but it’s effectively a PA for my business. It’s so useful and saves me a lot of time every day.
What’s on your interiors wishlist?
After a recent trip to Copenhagen, I’m pining – or perhaps teak-ing – for some mid-century Danish furniture. A visit to the Danish Museum of Art and Design provided lots of inspiration from the likes of Arne Jacobsen, but unfortunately you couldn’t help yourself to the exhibits.
A nice mid-century teak desk for my home office is currently top of the list. Maybe an Arne Jacobsen Oxford chair, too, if we’re pushing the boat out.
Favourite thing about your job?
I love writing, so that’s a pretty good thing about it, but the best thing is probably the variety. I can be writing about sliding door wardrobes one day and fashion, fridges or football the next.
I enjoy getting to know different business, finding out what they do, how that helps their customers and working out the best way of getting their message across to readers.
Best storage tips for your home?
As I said, I’m moving into a new house at the moment. The best tip I can offer is to start with a foundation of good storage space. That means installing fitted wardrobes and getting as much storage space as possible out of your loft.
If you begin with lots of room for storage, it’s so much easier to unpack and – having lived in rental properties that were good in this respect and others that were not so good – to keep everything in its place.
Dream wardrobe? Whose style do you admire?
Tough one. I’m a big fan of all things 1960s and particularly the mod look favoured by people like Steve Marriott, from the Small Faces. I suppose Paul Weller, Martin Freeman and, more recently, Bradley Wiggins are the best known current embodiments of that look.
But Weller is prone to the occasional disaster so opting for his entire wardrobe could be dangerous territory. Instead, I’ll go for Steve McQueen: timeless and seemingly effortless style.
