Planning a redecoration?

by Andrea McVeigh in DIY & Home Improvement on 18 April 2013

Planning a redecoration? If you're tired of looking at the same old scene then it's time to shake up your interior style and start thinking about a brand new look.

Maybe you’re in need of more storage space or your old furniture has simply seen better days? Before you start shopping, keep in mind these organising tips and you’ll find the whole process not only easy, but fun too.

These days, it’s easier than ever to get organised, with numerous interior design magazines andinterior design books devoted to helping you find inspiration. And that’s not forgetting the role that the internet can now play, from interior design blogsto Pinterest. If you’re looking for a suitable blog, just type in ‘interior design blog’ and you’ll find articles with entire lists devoted to the best ones - the decor8blog.com blog is one of the most popular.

If you haven’t discovered it yet, Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that lets you organise and share ideas, photos and other inspiring things you can find on the web then gather them all together onto different pinboards. You can even search through other peoples’ pinboards and get inspiration from them too.

One of your first ports of call should be the Sliderobes pinterest page at www.pinterest.com/source/sliderobes.com. There are ideas for built-in wardrobes, walk-in wardrobes, storage and different colour schemes - the Sliderobes Enigma range with high-glass aubergine drawers and doors is proving particularly popular!

The wonderful world of apps throws up the influential Houzz Interior Design free app, which has more than one million photos, which you can browse through by style, room and location. You’ll also find lots of other free apps, including 3D room planners and those devoted to current trends in interior design.

If you prefer a less high-tech, more traditional way of organising your ideas, buy a scrap book and cut out photos from magazines. Go through it regularly and you might find that you go off some ideas, while others quickly become favourites. You might even see a theme develop, such as vintage, while particular colours or shapes might begin to dominate.

Or go one step further than a scrapbook and copy professional designers by creating a mood board. These are often used by designers to collect images, text, inspirational phrases, photos, samples and fabric swatches together to compile an overall image or mood of their design ideas.

And of course our very own Design Inspiration section on Sliderobes.com is full of inspiring and informative blogs with a wealth of design ideas - you’re reading one now!
