You never really hear the term capsule wardrobe used in relation to the latest men's fashion. Look no further for your inspiration.
Women’s glossy magazines are always full of sample capsule wardrobes, but men’s fashion tips are usually lacking in this department. And yet, when you think about it, a capsule wardrobe is a very masculine thing: quality over quantity, shopping trips kept to a minimum and sticking to what you know and like – all fine manly traits! So, how do you create a capsule wardrobe? A capsule wardrobe is built around a small number of items which are versatile and have been selected to go together. This ensures they can be mixed and matched to create a range of different outfits. If you can make them match, then you can work with any colour you like, but it’s easier if you stick to blue.
A nice suit
Again, we’d suggest blue because of the options it opens up for mixing and matching. You might even opt for a three-piece suit to give yourself even more options.
A quality pair of jeans
A nice pair of selvedge denim jeans can be smart casual or casual depending on what you wear with them. Opt for good quality and a dark wash for maximum versatility.
A pair of brown brogues
Pick the right pair of brogues and they’ll work with your suit, with the suit trousers or with your jeans. One pair of shoes that will cover you for a range of different occasions.
A blue button down shirt
It doesn’t have to be blue, but it makes sense. Choose a nice, well-cut button down poplin or Oxford shirt. Add a tie to wear with your suit or wear it with your jeans for a more casual look.
A blazer
A flannel or tweed blazer gives you an extra outer layer option for formal or casual wear.
A pea coat
The pea coat is the perfect capsule wardrobe coat. For a start, they’re usually navy blue. The double-breasted cut is smart and stylish. And it’s versatile enough to dress up or dress down.
A merino wool v-neck
A thin v-neck sweater could be worn by itself, but can also be teamed up with your formal outfit or your casual look to add a bit of variety to those options.
A pair of plimsolls
Plimsolls are the go-to option when it comes to versatile sports footwear. In white or navy, plimsolls are a great option for occasions when your brogues would not be suitable.
And there is your capsule wardrobe. Have we missed any versatile wardrobe essentials that would have to be in yours?
