Updating your wardrobe every season is a given but often it's our beauty regime that gets completely neglected. Autumn/winter weather can cause havoc on your skin with the harsh wind and cold wet conditions and the Christmas party season can lead to hair breakage from all the products and styling tools used.
Autumn/winter weather can cause havoc on your skin with the harsh wind and cold wet conditions.
Protect your hair and skin by using high quality products and making sure you adopt a strict day and night-time routine. Nourishing and replenishing your skin will help battle premature ageing and keeping your hair in good condition will help it look strong and healthy all winter long.
Follow our tips for a fail-proof Autumn beauty routine:
Haircare
Invest in a good quality shampoo and conditioner to thoroughly wash and prep your hair. Use a leave in mask to nourish your hair and give it a soft and shiny look. I personally swear by hair oil to smooth the cuticle and keep it looking healthy, it’s also great for helping your hair dry faster. To avoid excessive damage and hair breakage use a detangler brush like the tangle teezer.
Skincare
Cold and dry weather can be hard on your skin. The lack of moisture in the air means that your skin cells lose water leaving your skin flaky, sore and feeling very dry. What you need is a moisturiser that locks the moisture in your skin and provides a barrier between your skin cells and the cold climate. Vaseline will work wonders for protecting your lips and keeping them from looking chapped and it’s also perfect for using on dry areas such as your elbows, knees and ankles.
If you want to remove any dry flaky skin simply use an exfoliating and moisturising products to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy and soft. Exfoliating will remove any dead skin cells leaving a fresh layer of skin underneath. After soaking in a hot bath, exfoliate using a body puff and sugar scrub and then once you’re dry apply a rich body moisturiser or oil to hydrate your skin.
In the summer, your skin benefits from plenty of vitamin D from the sunlight but it’s a different story when it comes to the winter when your skin can look dull and dehydrated. Apply a face mask every week to restore the moisture in your face or if you can, book yourself in for a facial to have a professional recommend the best products and treatments for your skin type.
Natural beauty tips
The best beauty advice to keep your skin looking great all winter long is to focus on nourishing yourself from the inside out. Stodgy carb heavy food is good for keeping you feeling full for longer but you still need to eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg as well as drinking lots of water.
Storage
With the darker days, it can be hard to find the energy to do anything let alone adding a million new products to your beauty routine. Be careful about what you invest in and take care to keep your stash organised and within reach. A sliding wardrobe with a built in dressing table is extremely handy for storing your potions and lotions. Separate your day and night-time beauty items and throw away any old products that you don’t use anymore to clear your room of clutter.
