What do we do when we want to unwind, relax and recuperate? Take ourselves off to a hotel for a break, of course. What ideas can we steal from hotels?
Perhaps we should try to pinch a few tips from hotel rooms so we can enjoy those benefits all year round.
Here are some tactics used by hotel interior designers that could benefit your home.
Out of sight really is out of mind
We’re guessing you probably don’t keep a trouser press, a mini-fridge or iron in your bedroom – apologies if you do – but the traditional hotel room clutter proves that clever storage allows you to keep just about anything in your room without it causing any inconvenience.
All those cushions do make a difference
It’s the little touches that give the ‘wow’ factor when your first walk into a hotel room. That means embracing things like seemingly pointless cushions on the bed. No, they don’t have a practical use but they create a nice environment for you to inhabit. Plus, they’re much easier to handle if you’ve got a nice fitted wardrobe to store them in when they’re not on the bed.
Put a chair in the room
Something that surprisingly few people have in their bedroom but almost all hotel rooms have is… a chair. Not only is it very handy for sitting without disturbing the aforementioned cushions, it’s also a great opportunity to enhance your interior design.
Make your lighting convenient
Think about hotel lighting. If it’s done well it allows to create the perfect atmosphere in your room, and also lets you turn an array of lights on and off from various points around the room. It’s those things that just make life a little bit more convenient.
Invest in quality
Hotels buy the best their budget will stretch to, and you should do the same. Not only does this ensure you get the look you’re really after, it also keeps your room looking at its best for as long as possible.
Don’t underestimate your need for storage
We finish where we started. In order to keep things out of sight just like a hotel room it’s essential that you have enough storage. If you’ve ever stayed in a hotel that’s fallen into the trap of providing too little storage space, you’ll know that the whole philosophy collapses and you end up surrounded by clutter. You don’t want this for your bedroom at home.
